The Hospital & Clinic Safety Section provides services related to all aspects of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) compliance. JCAHO Safety Compliance Activities include:

The Environmental Waste Management Section implements and manages programs required for federal and state environmental protection compliance. These programs include:

Biosafety
The Biosafety Section develops and oversees programs to facilitate and promote the safe handling, transport, use and disposal of biological materials in laboratory, animal or clinical research. These programs include:
Research program review through the Vanderbilt Institutional Biosafety Committee (pursuant to NIH and CDC guidelines).
Assessments and audits of work practices, facilities and equipment for use at established biosafety containment levels.
Consultation and training regarding transfer and shipping of potentially hazardous and/or regulated biological materials from or to Vanderbilt.
Consultation and training regarding occupational exposure to potentially hazardous biological materials.
Radiation Safety
The Radiation Safety Section provides a variety of safety services related to ionizing radiation:
Radioactive Spill Response
Executive Arm of the Vanderbilt Radiation Safety Committee
Coordinate reviews of applications to use radiation sources
Surveys and audits of operations involving ionizing radiation
Monitoring for compliance with limits for environmental radiation levels and emissions
Compliance surveys and radiation protection services for X-Ray / accelerator equipment and facilities
Dosimetry services
Shielding and facility design consultation
Bioassay services
Purchase of radioactive material
Receipt and delivery of radioisotope orders.
Survey meter calibration
Shipping of radioactive material
